Paneer Gyro

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

If every there existed a vegetarian kebab shop this dish is what they would serve. It was quite straightforward to prepare and make, but the only tip I would add is to be careful how thin you cut your paneer slices, too thin and they will fall off! The gyro itself can be served alongside a salad, in a wrap or more traditionally inside pitta bread.

INGREDIENTS GYRO:

  • 100g of paneer

  • Half a small grated onion

  • 2 cloves of garlic pressed into a paste

  • 1 tbsp sesame seed oil

  • 4 tbsp Greek yoghurt

  • 2 tsp red chilli powder

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp chaat masala powder

  • 1/2 tsp garam masala

  • A pinch of salt

  • 1/2 tsp ketchup

  • 1/2 soya sauce

  • 1 tsp chilli sauce

METHOD GYRO

  1. Preheat the oven at 170 degrees Celsius

  2. Mix all the ingredients apart from the paneer in a bowl and stir until combined

  3. Slice the paneer into squares roughly 3cm x 3cm and 3mm in width

  4. Marinate each slice of paneer and place onto a skewer

  5. Rest the skewer on a oven tin as shown below

  6. Roast in the skewer in the oven for 35 mins turning frequently.
