If every there existed a vegetarian kebab shop this dish is what they would serve. It was quite straightforward to prepare and make, but the only tip I would add is to be careful how thin you cut your paneer slices, too thin and they will fall off! The gyro itself can be served alongside a salad, in a wrap or more traditionally inside pitta bread.
INGREDIENTS GYRO:
100g of paneer
Half a small grated onion
2 cloves of garlic pressed into a paste
1 tbsp sesame seed oil
4 tbsp Greek yoghurt
2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chaat masala powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
A pinch of salt
1/2 tsp ketchup
1/2 soya sauce
1 tsp chilli sauce
METHOD GYRO
Preheat the oven at 170 degrees Celsius
Mix all the ingredients apart from the paneer in a bowl and stir until combined
Slice the paneer into squares roughly 3cm x 3cm and 3mm in width
Marinate each slice of paneer and place onto a skewer
Rest the skewer on a oven tin as shown below
Roast in the skewer in the oven for 35 mins turning frequently.
